Newly styled – The Meissen Collage – Modern interpretation of tradition

Tradition and modernity. Mix and match. I discovered the porcelain series The Meissen Collage by chance in a shop last autumn during our visit to Weimar. I really liked the idea of interpreting the traditional onion pattern in a completely new and modern way. Old decorative elements are staged in a new way. With “The Meissen Collage” you can create completely new combinations and let your creativity run free.

Various series belong to this collection. I have covered two of them in combination. If you look closely, you might recognize the old onion pattern under the grey cloth napkin on the plates of the “Noble Chinese” series. The traditional pattern is deliberately included in the new interpretation to allow a variety of combinations.

Great! So my small bowls with the traditional onion pattern also fit perfectly to it. Other porcelains can also be mixed in.

Because the service is colourfully combined, I choose simple beige table runners that show the colours to their best advantage. The crossed dessert spoons and cake forks reflect a little bit the two swords of Meissen.

The other series from the collection is called “Love Bird”. Colourful birds with many little hearts. The colours are different from the other service, but can be combined beautifully. Also this colour world harmonizes again with the table runners.

I have chosen purple flowers in different, small vases.

In order to not make it too colourful, I have chosen simple wine glasses from Riedel in combination with water glasses from Rotter Glas.

I love the glasses from Rotter Glas from Lübeck. For several years I have been using black glasses with a cut dragon. These glasses are modern, extraordinary, but still plain and fit to almost every tableware.

The Rotter glasses are made by hand in a small manufactory in northern Germany. Each glass is unique and something very special. Here I have covered different motifs, but they all harmonize with each other.

This is a nice example of the fact that you don’t necessarily have to place the same plates on every place setting, but that it is also possible to mix different plates from different series, rows or collections. Link.
