Today, we made a trip to Italy. San Remo at the Italien Riviera is about 20 km far from the french border and has 55.000 inhabitants.
At the coast line we had the impression we are in a little coastal resort. But once you are entering the centre you realize it is a city. San Remo is dominated by grand hotels and the casino where the belle époque society stayed in the beginning of the 20th century. Today the cut flower industry is the major industrial sector of San Remo.
We enjoyed the walk through the old town, to the San Siro cathedral and especially the orthodox church “La Chiesa Russa”. Below the old town there is a pedestrian area with very nice shops. I have seen some great shoes but my men have not been in a shopping mood …
Overall we had a very nice day in Sanremo although the town seems to be a “Sleeping Beauty” now that the summer is over.
I recommend the Restaurant “Café per Mare” just opposite the San Remo Yard Club. We have enjoyed the view on the harbour as well as the good food and service. The tuna tartar and the spaghetti carbonara have been delicious!
The cool T-shirt with Audrey Hepburn I have seen in one of the windows!
