Architecture and fashion

By Petra Dieners

On our way to Sanremo we took the coastal highway from Ste. Maxime to Cannes. In Théoule-sur-Mer (next to Cannes) you can see the huge habitable sculpture the  “Palais Bulles” from immense big bowls and I could take a picutre.

Planned was this building with 1200 sqm from the French architecture Antti Lovag. In the seventies he begann to build bowlhouses. They should revolutionize the living of tomorrow. Also the furniture should follow the curves of the building.

To finish the real estate took 14 years. The Palais Bulles has 4 stories and exsists of 25 huge bowls.

Lovags philosophie was: The construction of the outside is adapted to the inside. The Impression of the bowlhouses is spectacular but this was not the intention of the architect. Lovag was not interested in the big fronts but more in the problems of the humans. His architecture should correspond to nature and human.

Pierre Cardin was fascinated and bought this huge building 1989. In the meanwhile it is appointed to a monument.

At the moment fashion and architecture is a special relation for the cruise fashion shows of the designer. Pierre Cardin who has worked for Dior between 1946 and 1950. Because of this friendship the Dior designer Raf Simons could stage his fashion show for spring 2016 in the Palais Bulles.

Trends of the Show: Lurex, checked pattern, material mix, volume and sixties in futuristic optic.
